Understanding Stock Order Tracking
What are the different stages of a stock order on Daba?
When you place a stock order on Daba, it goes through several stages from submission to settlement:
- Pending: The order has been received by Daba and is awaiting reception / confirmation by the broker or asset manager.
- Open: The order has been successfully received by the broker or asset manager and is being processed in the market.
- Filled: The order has been successfully executed in the market and is in the settlement process.
- Settled: The order has completed the settlement process and the securities/funds have been credited to your account.
- Rejected: The order was rejected by the market or broker for various reasons.
How long does each order stage typically last?
The duration of each stage depends on various factors including market conditions, order type, and the specific exchange:
- Pending to Open: Usually within minutes during market hours.
- Open to Filled: Can range from seconds to days depending on order type (market vs. limit) and market liquidity.
- Filled to Settled: For most African exchanges, settlement takes 3 business days (T+2). In particular, BRVM (Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières) settlement occurs 3 days after execution.
Why might my order be rejected?
Orders can be rejected for several reasons:
- Insufficient funds in your account
- Price limits outside market parameters
- Market closure or trading halts
- Regulatory restrictions
- Minimum order size requirements not met
- Corporate actions affecting the security
What happens if market conditions change while my order is Open?
For market orders, execution will occur at the current market price, which may differ from the price seen when placing the order. For limit orders, your order will only execute at your specified price or better.
Can I modify or cancel my order once submitted?
No. At the moment, Daba does not support cancelling orders.
How can I track the status of my orders?
You can monitor your order status in real-time through:
- The Orders section in your portfolio
- Transaction history page
- Order confirmation notifications
What’s the difference between Filled and Settled status?
When an order is Filled, the trade has been executed but ownership transfer and payment are still being processed. Once Settled, the securities are officially in your portfolio and available for trading or withdrawal.
